PNP to recruit 10,000 new police officers for 2010 PDF Print E-mail

CAGAYAN de Oro - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has made a directive to the Philippine National Police (PNP) to recruit 10, 000 new members of the police force this year.
Thus said Vice-Chairman and Executive Officer Eduardo U. Escuate of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) during a press conference held February 4, this city.

In response to the concern raised during the conference regarding the height limits of applicants as part of the strategic requirements, Vice-Chairman Escueta said that the law clearly sets the height standards in order to qualify entry into the police service.

The general qualifications and standards in recruiting  new members of  the Philippine National Police (PNP) require male applicants to be at least one meter and sixty-two centimeters (1.62 meters / 5ft 4 in) and one meter and fifty-seven centimeters (1.57 meters /5ft 2 in) for females.

According to Escueta, an across the board lowering of height limits is a matter which will be considered by NAPOLCOM, especially now that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has just recently eased their height standard limits. He said that PNP and NAPOLCOM should be consistent with the trends of the time and respond accordingly, more specifically on the pervasive and prevalent clamor on height standards.

NAPOLCOM is an agency mandated by the 1987 Constitution and the major police reform laws, Republic Act numbers 6975 and 8551, to administer and control the Philippine National Police (PNP) with the end view of maintaining a highly professional, competent, disciplined, credible and trustworthy PNP.

Hence, the Commission has the powers to investigate police anomalies and irregularities, administer police entrance and promotional examination and summarily dismiss erring police officers. (Henry D. Daquipel, PIA 10)
